Imperfect Tense

The imperfect tense is one of the past tenses of Church Slavonic. It indicates continuous or habitual action in the past. The imperfect does not have forms for the 2nd person singular. The imperfect tense should not be confused with imperfective aspect. The imperfect tense is formed only from verbs of the imperfective aspect.

The imperfect always has the vowel <jus malyj> before the ending. If the verb stem ends in a vowel, the vowel is replaced by <jus malyj>. An exception is that if the verb stem ends in the vowel <az">, the <az"> is not changed to <jus malyj>
